Robin D. King

Hello, everyone. For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Mrs. Robin King or, as the kids refer to me, Miss Robin. I have just been installed as your new Virginia Division 3rd Vice-President or Division Director for the Children of the Confederacy. I have been involved with the CofC since my daughter was a member, and she’s now 32. In other words, a long time!

I’m very excited to be working with this year’s CofC Division President, Miss McGowan Storage, and her great group of officers. Mackie has undertaken a wonderful project she has named “150 for the 150th.” Everyone is encouraged to donate 150 pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, or dollars towards conserving two flags made in Charlottesville during the war period and now housed at the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond. They are believed to be the only flags in existence actually made by children. Mackie has beautiful four-color pamphlets (download the PDF file here) and cardboard box “banks” that she would love to send to you or to anyone who would be interested in participating. Please help us get the word out and support her and the Division CofC in this very worthwhile project.

We would also love to increase subscriptions to our CofC Division newsletter, Virginia’s Glory, so everyone can keep up with all the things the Children are doing and hopefully get more of you involved in Division activities. At only $5.00 a year, it’s a real bargain. Our Division Editor, Ian Tomlinson, will be happy to add you or your Chapter to his list of subscribers. Please keep me updated about your CofC Chapter activities. I want to see them featured in the newsletter, and, if possible, I’d love to be able to attend some of them.

Also please submit pictures and information about your Chapter activities to our Division Historian, Caroline Akers, for the scrapbook. It’s been a long time since Virginia Division CofC has won any scrapbook awards, and Caroline would love to have lots of things to put in this year’s book.

Our beautiful CofC insignia would make great Christmas presents, and our Division Vice President Bryant Akers is ready to help you with your orders.

Our Second Vice President Maggie Joyner will be happy to help you and your Chapters make sure you have the updated CofC catechisms so you can join in the fun of the catechism quizzes at Division Convention in June – and maybe even at General Convention in July! There is usually an adult quiz as well, so everyone needs to brush up!

Feel free to contact me anytime with any questions or concerns and most especially if you know of any children who would like to become members of our great Organization. I would love to see our membership increase in the coming year. You can reach me by e-mail at rdk99@comcast.net or by telephone at 804 795-7601. I will try to respond to you as quickly as I can. Special thanks to Therese Tomlinson, Sharon Loving, and Kathie Rankin for their help and guidance and continued support. We are very blessed to have such great ladies in our Organization.

In CofC Love,
Robin King ~ Division Director
