VIRGINIA DIVISION UDC AND CofC ESTABLISH SCHOLARSHIPS
IN MEMORY OF TWO HONORARY PRESIDENTS OF DIVISION

Miss Martha A. Anthony![]()
Dr. R. Beatrice BlandAt its 2002 convention, Virginia Division, United Daughters of the Confederacy, voted to establish an unrestricted scholarship in memory of Miss Martha A. Anthony, Honorary President of Virginia Division. Miss Martha, a member of Mary Anna Jackson Chapter 2178 and a recipient of both the Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal and the Winnie Davis Medal, passed away in 2002. Known throughout the Division for her work as a poet and an historical essayist, she served as Division Recorder of Crosses of Military Service from 1979 to 1981 and from 1983 to 1985. She was was elected to the office of Honorary President in 1996. The Division is currently raising funds for the scholarship through a variety of activities. Dr. R. Beatrice Bland — founding member of Virginia Division, Children of the Confederacy, member of Centennial-Maury UDC Chapter, Ex-Director of Virginia Division CofC, Honorary President of Virginia Division UDC, and recipient of the Robert E. Lee Award from Virginia Division CofC — passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2004.
Virginia Division CofC established the Beatrice Bland Scholarship in her honor in 2003 with a $1000 contribution from Dr. Bea's Chapter and began raising funds in earnest under the leadership of Virginia Division CofC President Miss Jamie Maupin.
